Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in petrol prices and will start direct supply to filling stations nationwide beginning Monday, September 15, 2025. The refinery’s gantry price is now fixed at ₦820 per litre, sources said.
Retail prices are set to vary by state. In Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti, the new retail price will be ₦841/litre, while in Abuja, Delta, Rivers, Edo, and Kwara the price will be ₦851/litre. The adjustments will reflect reductions of ₦19 per litre in Lagos and the Southwest, and ₦34 in Abuja and other central and southern regions.
The refinery will deploy its 4,000 compressed natural gas-powered trucks for direct supply to registered marketers at zero additional logistics cost, as part of efforts to reduce supply chain costs. This direct petrol delivery scheme was earlier slated to begin in mid-August but was postponed.
While the price cut is binding for Dangote’s own gantry operations and its direct supply program, it does not compel independent petroleum marketers or retailers to adopt the new retail pricing, except those already in partnership with Dangote, including its distribution affiliates.
The move comes amid heightened tensions with labour unions. The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has placed its members on “red alert” following earlier disputes with Dangote Group over unionisation rights.
