Wumi Toriola Fires Back at Afeez Owo Over Podcast Remarks

Veteran actress Wumi Toriola has publicly challenged film director Afeez Owo following a controversial remark he made during the African A-List podcast.

During the interview, Owo drew a comparison between Toriola’s on-screen persona and that of his wife, actress Mide Martins. He described Wumi as someone whose film roles “are close to her character in real life” and that “violence is her comfort zone.” Owo added, “Wumi will react when provoked and she doesn’t take nonsense from anyone. But if you offend Mide in real life, she will remain calm”

Toriola responded swiftly via a now-deleted Instagram video, forcefully rebuffing the comparison:

“Must every rift be taken to podcasts? They gave you a mic, and you started saying rubbish.” She continued,

“Am I a mad woman? If people don’t offend me, will I be angry? I have never insulted you before. I still respect you despite your unfortunate behaviour”

Her remarks tapped into a broader conversation around respect and professionalism within Nollywood’s public discourse.
